This shouldn't be an eye-opener for people in this generation. This is something that we have been around for most of our lives. "Sex" sells. Though people don't agree with the way that companies post ads, do people still buy their products? Yes! All of these ads are geared directly towards men. Why would women let themselves be portrayed that way? The answer is most women will not let themselves be portrayed in such a manner. It's that select few who allow themselves to be for some type of fame. The reason why there are ads like that is because women are willing to do so and advertisers are quick to pull the trigger. If this were to change, it starts from the bottom by people saying no.

I found the video very interesting and informative. I have viewed Mickey Mouse Monopoly which discusses the images of the submissive female looking for Prince Charming, even if it means converting an abusive Beast, as in Beauty and the Beast, but this is the first time my attention was drawn to the messages regarding masculinity in these films. It is true, as women are told by films such as Beauty and the Beast that if they truly love the Beast he will become docile, males are also told that they can be a Beast and it is the woman’s job to “tame” them. In an era of prevalent domestic abuse, this is a message we cannot afford our children to absorb.

As this blog points out, these images in Disney films are especially powerful because very young children prefer to watch their favorite videos over and over in endless loops, therefore reinforcing the power of these images to cultivate these stereotypes. Because most parents see Disney as “clean, child-oriented entertainment,” they often unquestioningly use Disney videos as babysitters so that children are exposed to these images with no adult filter. However, many parents, if they watched these videos critically, would realize that these films are imparting messages that they would not accept in other contexts and would stop financially supporting these Disney films and force Disney to create more balanced images.

As a former gamer I used to play games like Grand Theft Auto and Call of Duty. As a teenager playing a graphic game such as GTA due to its content, the way women were portrayed is how the media portrays women to a certain extent in today's society. Additionally in this game the characters refer to women as "Bitches" and used to fulfill sexual desires. This has been going on for years. But there happens to be a low percentage of males that do not agree with this idea, however a large percentage of males do support the misogyny depicted in video games which is quite alarming.

I am highly shocked to see the way that photoshop has spun out of control in the past few years. At one time this software was only used to make small adjustments to a person body not for the removal of entire sections of your body. To me seeing these ads is disgusting and makes me realize just how fake everyone and everything I see in the media is fake. For me I don't see anything wrong with an underarm or an armpit. It's just a part of your body like any other part and shouldn't need to be edited out like this. I really hope marketers stop practices like this and let women's bodies be how they are; unedited, unretouched and natural!

Zoe Nicholson came up with an interesting point when she spoke about equality within race or even sexual orientation. I always thought that feminism included women who disliked men and thought that they were superior in some way, however it is very different. Like she said, should a race be treated equally? The answer is ofcourse. And therefore a persons sex should be equal as well.

The continual glorification of crime against women and the victimization of women is not only indicative of the hypermasculine society we live in, but also indicative how desensitized corporations who make products for women are about the issues women have themselves. How does one rationalize selling a dress or a pair a shoes by displaying it on a bound and blindfolded female or on the lifeless limbs of women? "The dress was so fabulous that she felt victimized by it?" This kind of display needs to stop.

I don't know if Pullen feels that because it is artist it shouldn't be judged. However, to me it is still not acceptable that they put women violence as a part of ads or art work. I feel that it is really disturbing to hear that they use LA and NY Police Department Files for this pictures. No one wants to feel like they are looking at someone past incidents. Violence towards anyone is rather hurtful and I think its really disrespectful to feel like its okay to show it because it was reality to someone. They don't want to re-live this events. And women in the present that are being abused also don't want to look at them. It can make them feel like one day that can be themselves being seen in the picture/art work/ads.

Disgusting, putrid, vile: words that come to my head when I look at these pictures. To liken a woman to human waste waiting to be flushed down the toilet? To portray a rape victim post-rape seemingly at the height of her Lolita-esque beauty? The worth of human life increases but the worth of a woman is decreasing...how does that make sense? A company with this much prestige and influence should not only employ a more socially conscious means of creating advertisements, but should also print retractions for such smut that they've had the gall to publish.

It's shameful enough to create ads that attract men more than women for women's products, but to play on trend of body image acceptence with bodies that are similar to 5% of women's bodies...it feeds the problem even more. From my own personal experience, VS lingerie is uncomfortable and never fits me...it's overpriced and most of their items are tacky and tasteless. And this ad campaign only ALLUDES to the excess that is this company.

Victoria Secret, you need to get a reality check about your customers.
